Arlexis.

Let’s get to know you! Who is “Lexi” and why do you do what you do? Could you describe a real-life situation that has inspired you or one of your projects?

♥Who is Lexi? Lexi, honestly is just a piece to a bigger picture. And that’s how I look at myself; in pieces. For example, some days I feel like Lexi, some days I feel like Lex. Other days I wake up and address myself as Arlexis, but everyday I know I’m me. These different personalities, personas, moods- whatever, are just pieces that make the masterpiece that is me. I am a multifaceted individual and by embracing this I feel most like who I am; Myself. And because I am myself, I do all that I do. I see a piece of myself in everyone and art is a way for me to reflect those pieces of myself back to other people for them to interpret. This is my way of shedding light into the souls of others. Art is the way I connect to others and the Divine.

One of my most meaningful paintings I did came into creation after a time where I was hurting badly and relating to a lot of people in a very sad and depressing way. I was in the process of recovering from the trauma of rape and I was feeling hurt and alone in the world. I remember sitting on my bed sobbing when I felt a Divine presence in the room. And in that moment I knew I was not alone. I knew I was not the only woman to ever experience this type of pain and that like them, I would heal, and be a catalyst for the healing of others. And the next morning I painted what I consider to be one of my most riveting and effusive paintings yet, “The Lady in the Water”.

How do you work? Do you have a type of everyday ritual that you do while you paint?

♥I work when I need something to “come up off me”. Meaning, I work when I am inspired to. That inspiration can come in a number of different ways, from falling in love, to passionate anger, to heart break. Whatever it is, if I feel it then I have to capture it on the canvas. Usually when I paint I indulge myself in self care. I just listen to good music, drink sweet wine or invite good friends over for a creative session and beautiful conversation. Art is my way of relaxing. And I do so whether with others or on my own. I guess my ritual is just taking the time to make sure I enjoy it.

How do you balance your “art life” and your “everyday life”?

♥ Balancing my art life with my everyday life is something that I am still learning to tackle right now as an Artist. Art is time consuming and takes way more dedication than most people might think. Sometimes it can be hard balancing my need to create and produce with my other responsibilities such as school, work, personal relationships and life. But moving in Divine guidance is how I am able to manage so gracefully. My spirituality plays a huge part in my art and my role as an Artist. Staying in tune with my spirituality helps me to stay in tune with my art because of how intertwined they are. My everyday life consists of me taking time to center myself, reflect, and pray. These three things are often done in some artistic way. For example, sometimes if I pull [tarot] cards I will redraw them with my own twist, or if I am praying I’ll write my prayer as a poem; things like that. My creative and loving relationship to the interconnectedness, that is the Divine is what keeps me in balance.

What is your dream project?

♥My dream project, I suppose, would be a massive painting that tells a story and pays tribute to the love and courage of the Ancestors and the beauty and gentleness of God. I just want to make something that stirs the soul of man. That is my dream piece- creating something that isn’t worth a thousand words but rather speaks the word of Spirit right into the hearts of man.

IMG_6079

Professionally, what is your ultimate goal? What does success look like to you?

♥Professionally, my ultimate goal is to inspire and heal others while simultaneously doing the same for myself. I am working at being able to not only support myself but also build in my community. Success to me is the capability to not only provide for myself but to also be able to put my brothers and sisters on, and into a position where they can provide for themselves and others also. I want the type of financial stability that community brings and I am working to put myself in the position to help build and invest in my community for that exact reason.

IMG_6089

To the young girls that look up to you and other artists, do you have any words of encouragement to share?

♥To any young women who aspire to be artists, I say “Don’t want it, Will it!”. By this I mean create your way to your success. Never be afraid to step into your light. Don’t just dream–do. All of the cheesy, cliche self motivation quotes are right! You’ve got entirely what it takes so just go for it! So long as you are moving authentically and in your own purpose and truth you can never fail.

Regarding your passion for modeling , photography, and acting…where do you see yourself in the next 3 years?

♥Hmm in 3 years I see myself pursuing a masters in film or in an internship at Cartoon Network.

Among your works, which one is your favorite and why?

♥My fave work that I’ve done is a shoot done at the UNCG pool with my friend Savannah.

image
Savannah, a friend of Jayla’s.

It was my favorite because I usually don’t have the resources to create the work that I constantly have spinning in my head, and that was the first one that really came to my vision 😊

How do you indulge in your passions while working and in school?

♥Well I study my passion in school as a media studies major. It’s got everything and can be everything so it’s easy for me to just constantly be working on school and passion because it’s basically the same thing for me. I just work little by little everyday.

♥Don’t ever stop doing you. No matter what anyone says. It’s your life, not theirs! Show off your art! Build your platform! Be yourself and get very very good at what you do 😊

My prayer for you all is that God’s light will burn brightly in your lives!

My mother once hit me with a brainteaser that absolutely blew my mind.let-there-be-light_360_360_80

“So yeah, in the beginning, God said ‘Let there be light’…and there was light…but did you ever notice how it also says that the sun and moon weren’t created until the third and fourth day?”

I’m just gonna let that marinate for a moment.

How amazing is God that He can actually supply light without using actual, physical, light?

So where was the light coming from?

Who knows? I’m guessing the light was coming from…well, Him.

My point is, if God is great enough to supply the entire atmosphere with light, I am absolutely positive that He can shine in your life as well–and believe that He is already doing so!

God’s light is in everything. Physical, mental, and spiritual.

It’s in the trees, the rain, the aurora borealis (sigh of awe).

It’s in your teachers, your pets, your kids.

It’s in the library, the church, the hospital.
It’s in truth, love, laughter–it’s in all components of life.

Many times we are so blinded by the darkness that we forget about the life source that we most need at that time.

Light.

I suppose my prayer isn’t so much that God will shine in your life–because He is already doing so, you see?

My prayer is truly that you will realize how it has been YOU keeping yourself from shining brightly in all areas of your life and that you will take responsibility and uncover the light.

May God continue to be with you and give you strength to run your race!

Sending you MUCH Light and Love,

Kay.

Peace Be Unto You!

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world

He says it himself! If he did it, we can too!

God did NOT promise us an easy life on earth.

The only time life will be perfect is when we are dead and gone on to live with Him. But don’t get so ready to pack your bags and leave just yet! If you are still alive, you are alive for a reason. (When C.G.I.A. has its second key release, we will be teaching you all how to find your purpose for living!)

But remember to keep that in mind! You are here for a reason.

Yeah, yeah, we know. Your boyfriend just dumped you to “work on himself”, you’ve gained 26 pounds in 2 months, your bank account only has 37 dollars in it, your car won’t start up again for the third time this month and now you’re late for work. We know. God knows. We all get it.

But you have two choices. Either crawl up in a ball, collecting gray hairs from stress, eating the rest of the tub of ice cream that you just bought 20 minutes ago, or you can let the pain/hurt/lies/bankruptcy go right back out the door that it came in through.

You simply have to find your escape route!

To find your route or your path, you’ll need a light. (…you see where this is going?) Jesus is the light!

Escape route 1.

Use prayer and faith in order to aim that light on your problems! His light is so bright that the problems will burn away, and you will then have a clear path before you!

Psalm 112:4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness

And yes, sometimes it’s good to pray for yourself. But more importantly;

Escape route 2.

Remember to pray for other people! Whenever you are going through your darkest times…like all the happiness is sucked away from you, that is when you should begin to pray for someone else. The main times when we are unhappy are when we are stuck in a rut thinking about ourselves! When we begin to stop putting ourselves as the main focus of our lives (sounds backwards, we know) that’s when we are the happiest. Pray for others with a sincere heart. Don’t just say, “God bless whats-his-name”. Pray for them what you would like for your own self! Happiness, Peace, Love, Health, Strength, etc.

Remember to keep your mind on God’s love, light, and lessons.

Remember that you can do ALL things through Christ!

When in times of trouble or hurt, ask God to bring back to remembrance all the things that you have learned from Him. He’ll do it!

John 14:26 …he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you

Peace be unto you all!

A few nuggets to take with you from Monday’s post:
🔹M&M 1: John 8:12 “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” Once we choose to follow His light, we banish all opportunity of darkness to consume us!
🔹M&M 2: Once you begin following Him, you will become so infused with His light that you will begin reflecting the light! You won’t even have to tell anyone about your new lifestyle because they will see that you have already changed–not just because of your glow, but by your actions and new faith that you will begin to release.

🔹M&M 3: Stay unwavering in your faith, and He will put a new song in your mouth! Sing it for all to hear!

***1 Peter 3:15 “…always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you…”

Actions Speak Louder than Words

Posted on Updated on

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We slightly touched on this topic in our last blog post “Be the Light”.

We talked about how we should remember that as “lights of the world” we are instructed to shine our light in dark places so that ALL may see His Truth and Goodness.

To spread the light, we simply share our faith and what all we have learned from God, Spirit, Allah, (whomever/whatever you choose to believe in) on our individual life journeys.

Another way of spreading the light is mentioned in this Bible verse as well. “…that they may see your good works…”

Here’s a fun question. In order for you to get full usage of the sun…does it ever have to talk to you first? actions speak

Well, we hope that most of you answered ‘No!’

To get good usage from any light source, the light doesn’t have to say anything at all. It simply shines, shows us whatever we need to see, and gets the job done.

That’s how we must also be. Yes, sometimes we may need to share a word with others, but honestly, and you’ve heard it a billion times before, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. It doesn’t matter if you say the most buttery-sweet things. If after that you get in a fight, or throw litter on the ground, or decide to “twerk sum’ girl!” at your friend’s house party, people’s original thoughts about you will change. If you’re okay with that, well then, okay. More power to you. Just make sure that when their thoughts begin to change, you give them good things to think about you.

Remember that everything you do on earth is to glorify and honor the One who decided to put you on earth.

No one is asking you to be perfect. We all make mistakes.

But also, and the Bible itself says so, “You can do all things through Christ”. Ask God to give you the strength necessary to put your best foot forward and to practice what you preach.

Shine your light so that others can see Him working in your life!

You can do it.

You can do all things!

Sending you Light and Love,

The C.G.I.A. Foundation

A few nuggets to take with you from Monday:
🔹M&M 1: If Jesus is the light of the world, and we are made in his image, then we are also lights of the world!
Matthew 5:14 “Ye are lights of the world.”
🔹M&M 2: Think about it, in order to truly appreciate light, there has to be darkness! You may go through some really dark times in your life, but your light will shine so brightly that the darkness will eventually go away!
🔹M&M 3: Now, what does light in the physical world do? It allows people to see. Spiritual lights do the same thing. We allow people to see and hear the Truth. We share our faith and what we’ve learned in order to spread the light.
